Cranes at Crex

Crex Meadows that is. Crex is a 30,000 acre wildlife management area outside of Granstburg, Wisconsin. Every fall it serves as a bed and breakfast for thousands of migrating Sandhill Cranes.

I spent a morning there last week, and hope to visit again tomorrow.  Taken near the end of the breakfast fly out, this is a shot of one of the late risers. Although large and lanky in stature, they grace with which they fill the sky is simply stunning.
