Navigating his dog team along the rock and ice of Lake Superior,  the mail run of John Beargrease is legendary.  Carrying the U.S. mail between Two Harbors, Minnesota and Grand Portage, John Beargrease traversed some of the most rugged terrain in the mid west.  Today, a sled dog marathon bearing his name pays tribute to the mighty mail man of the 1800′s. 

Problem is,  as of January 16th, 2012, much of the 400 mile trail has little to no snow, forcing race organizers to cancel this years running of the John Beargrease.

No snow, no dogs, no sleds, but I thought I share a couple images of what could have been.
